The Natural Park was created in and is made up of two large mountain ranges: the Cadí and the , joined by the hill. Together, they form a mountain barrier that acts as a natural junction between the Pre-Pyrenees and the Pyrenees . It is a territory formed, for the most part, by sedimentary limestone rocks. An immense esplanade that surrounds the forest on the northern slope is known as Prat del Cadí .
